Ready to make a splash with pastel? This course will have lots of variety that all links

to the colour and movement of water. We will explore a variety of water subjects from waves in the ocean, tumbling waterfalls over river rocks to reflections in still water rivers and lakes.

This course will include understand the art basics of line, tone, colour and edge

and how that applies to painting water subjects. Keeping it simple and finding

less is more when painting water subjects.

Once the basics are understood we will explore the use of watercolour underpainting and wetting in pastel to achieve a variety of water effects. Be prepared for a lot of fun. Suitable for all levels.

Materials list

Backing board – padded with 5 layers of butchers paper.

Easel – table or standing

Paper – Art Spectrum colourfix

2x A3 sheet White or clear

1 x A3 sheet Terracotta

1 x A3 sheet Storm Blue

(I will supply paper)

Pastels – Bring whatever you have. A 60 set with a variety of tones in warm and cool colours would be a minimum. Conte and pastel pencils are not suitable for this workshop.

If you are a beginner and looking for a set I can hire you a set for the workshop @$15 per day. Just let me know so I can reserve it for you.

Kneadable eraser

Old paint brush to remove pastel.

Apron

Disposable gloves (optional)

Willow charcoal

Set of watercolours if you have one. ( I will supply if you do not)

3 x old 1” brushes to underpaint.

Rubbing alcohol. (Isocol) ( I will supply if you do not have any)

Reference material. There will be lots of opportunity to paint your own projects. Please bring plenty of references of what you love to paint. I will supply references for exercises but you learn more from painting your own references.
